Sarah Schain — Founder/Director/Teacher
More than ten years of yoga experience.

For more than 10 years, Sarah Schain has practiced yoga as a way to exercise her body, mind, and spirit. So when Sarah became a mother, she began to think about ways to share yoga s benefits and her love for yoga with her young son, Robert.

As Robert grew older, Sarah realized that in today s hectic world, children need a break from their routines as much as adults do. She also knew that teaching yoga to children required a very different approach than teaching yoga to adults.

Using her innate creativity, Sarah began teaching her favorite yoga routines to Robert and her second-born, Carly, by incorporating them into stories. Numerous studies indicate the importance of narrative in helping young children integrate events, actions, and feelings into one structure. Using stories to teach key concepts helps children assimilate information. This process is a critical part of a child s mental development.

As Sarah talked to other parents in her community, she found that many of them shared her views. After completing her children s yoga certification with Next Generation Yoga, Sarah sent 20 letters to schools and community groups near her home. The response was phenomenal. These 20 letters produced 12 responses, all requesting that Sarah teach children s yoga classes at their location . . . and Yoga Tales was born.

Sarah lives with her husband Devin and two children in Bethesda, Maryland.
